Step 1 - Determine Funding

You must talk to your Alberta Health Services Case Manager who will determine monthly funding.

Step 2 - Complete Forms
You must ensure all forms are completed in full and submitted by client or legal representative.
Step 3 - Hiring Staff
Client/Legal Representative will have to recruit potential staff, conduct interviews, make all hiring decisions, supervise and train new hires, outline job responsibilities and create a schedule.
Step 4 - Emergency Care Plan
Ensure back-up care is available in case of emergency or if regular caregivers unavailable.
Step 5 - Employee Assessments
Employees must have regular assessments.
Step 6 - Staff Duties
Client/Representative must determine scope of staff duties and ensure they meet expectations.
Step 7 - Staff Termination
Client/Representative must be prepared to terminate staff if needed.
Step 8 - Payroll & Taxes
Client/Representative must completed payroll, including tax reporting. This means they must obtain a business number and withhold income tax, Canada pension Plan funds and Employment Insurance.
Step 9 - Record Keeping
Upon termination or staff resignation, a record of employment must be provided.
Step 10 - Maintain Standards
Alberta Employment Standards must be met.
Step 11 - Reconciliation
Client/Representative must reconcile money spent on services each quarter to how funds received versus money spent on services.
